Academic Credit
Earn credit for Japanese language immersion.
University of Idaho has approved for academic credit courses taught at KCP International Japanese Language School. You can earn one year or more of language credit (either semester or quarter) each KCP semester term. Courses appear on a University of Idaho transcript about 30 days after you have completed the term.
The University of Idaho considers even an adult non-matriculating student a full time student, thus allowing both matriculated and adult learners to apply for financial aid.

KCP courses have been approved for credit by this university but it is up to each student to determine transferability of credit by your home school before you attend the program.
Incidentals:
- Extended term is two KCP semesters; academic year is three KCP semesters. Japanese Language course credit is awarded based on the multiple of terms. For more, see Terms of Study.
- The Japanese Culture and Civilization course is offered only during a student’s first term of study.
In the first week of class, you choose from three grading options: Grade (four-point scale), Pass/Fail, or Audit. For most study-abroad and transfer credits, choosing “Grade” will not affect a student’s cumulative GPA. Students choosing “Audit” will fully participate in the course but do not earn academic credit.

As a Sponsor University, University of Idaho confers academic credit for the KCP program whether the student attends the university or not. UI (the “school of record”) issues a transcript, and the student then requests the transcript be sent to their home school. While there is no guarantee the student’s home school will accept the transcript, KCP has had excellent results in credit transfer. UI provides financial aid to its students, or you can participate in a consortium agreement where your financial aid originating from your home school might apply to this program. UI may also have financial aid available to adult non-matriculating students.
UI Study Abroad is located in the International Programs Office at the University of Idaho in LLC #3. Each year it provides study abroad opportunities for more than 500 students from University of Idaho and other U.S. universities. UI Study Abroad staff work closely with faculty advisors, academic departments, and administrative offices to help you get from here to there!
KCP credits are recorded on the University of Idaho transcript as transfer credit, showing the total number of credits accepted and the total GPA. If needed, KCP can send an official KCP grade sheet to accompany the University of Idaho transcript.

See the sites and use your newly learned Japanese. I would recommend traveling with your fellow classmates. That’s not only safer, but more fun. I’ve spent almost every weekend with my friends.
